Gentleman,

We, students of the 8th grade in Escola Balão Vermelho, want to share with you our expirience with Assentamento Pastorinhas, situated in Brumadinha, MG.
This patnership has turned a succesfull project of solidarity economy, that showed positive results for the comunity of the assentamento and for the school.
In 2006, when we wore in the 5th grade, we made a study about sustainable develop. Our teacher Edi (Edinaldimar Barbosa), who already knew the Assentamento, gave the idea to take us there to live an example of a community that lived in a self sustainable way.
This visit showed us a new vision of the world. We met people that even living in bad conditions, worked their lands in a solidarity and cooperatively. They had the conciuss of respect the environment and the near person. They shared their tasks and their money. Received us offering a good lunch prepared by them selves.
We got know about the difficults they had to get those lands, because they were in the Movimento Sem Terra. They told us how hard is to keep them.
While we knew the plantetions, we found a middleman's truck collecting the products. From this, we took conciuness of the economy exploration they suffered.
We heard daily our parents complaining about the prices and the quality of vegetables in the supermarkets. So we had the idea that the Assentamento could sell their products directly to the people in Balão Vermelho. They would get fair prices for the selling and we would get vegetables without agrotoxicos.
After that we got legalize the local for selling, and every monday, in front of the school, we have a organic food fair. Until today. This project of solidary economy turned one of the principal rent of Assento Assentamento Pastorinhas, and helped to brake prejudice of all the people who keeps contacts with the 'assentados', including the people of the neighborhood where the school is.
Other part of the association is the contibution from parents, students, employees and teachers from the school, to the Assentamento. For example the donation of construction materials, clothes, furniture and, mainly books, that came from the anual book's fair in the school, called GIROLETRAS. in teh and of each event, a basket of children's book is given them, and since 2006 is contribuing to the Assentamento Pastorinhas' library. Valdivino, one of the dwellers, said that this is a realized dream, because they could't imagine that literature would be part of the life in a rural area.
How this year is our last one in the school Balão Vermelho, we have the resposibility to pass to the other classes the project, that will make the continuation to the patnership. So last week we took the 5th, 6th and 7th grade to know the Assentamento. In this visit, they had the oportunity to participate in a workshop about how to make a solar heater usings just reciclable materials.
How you could realize, this experience broght benefits for all people involved. From we, students, we still learn with them.
We've writen this letter hopping encourage simmilar projects. We want to give voice to this partnership and tell that everyone can do your contribution for society.
